What is PoliTruth?
PoliTruth is an accountability tracker for U.S. politicians. We turn the messy public record (campaign promises, key votes, legislative actions, ethics filings, and funding data) into clear, scannable profiles so you can see what your representatives actually said versus what they actually did.
Every politician gets a promise score (how often they keep their word), an ethics score and grade, and a breakdown of kept, broken, and in-progress promises, plus a funding snapshot.
How we stay nonpartisan
PoliTruth is not affiliated with any political party, campaign, or PAC. We apply the exact same scoring method to every politician regardless of party: the same promise math, the same ethics criteria, the same sources.
A broken promise counts the same whether it comes from a Democrat, Republican, or Independent. Our goal isn't to push a side. It's to hold everyone to the same standard.
Frequently asked questions
Where does the data come from?
Profiles are built from verifiable public record: campaign statements, official voting records, sponsored and cosponsored legislation (via the Congress.gov API), public ethics and financial-disclosure filings, and reputable news reporting.
How is the promise score calculated?
The promise score is the share of resolved promises that were kept: kept divided by kept plus broken, as a percentage. Promises still in progress don't count for or against the score until they resolve.
What is the ethics score?
The ethics score is a financial-integrity profile drawn from structured public-disclosure data like corporate PAC money, stock holdings, and ethics-pledge records, mapped to a 0 to 100 score and a letter grade.
How accurate is it? Can I trust it?
Treat PoliTruth as a fast, neutral starting point. Always verify with primary sources before relying on any single claim. We link out where we can.
Why is a politician missing or showing limited data?
Coverage is strongest for sitting members of Congress. Officials in non-legislative roles (President, VP, governors) may have lighter records since they don't have a congressional voting history.
